Theatrical News and Clips

Studio News and Attachments

  • SPLICE – Warner Brother’s Dark Castle division will be putting out Vincenzo Natali’s well-buzzed sci-fi/horror hybrid SPLICE this June with a few alterations in place from its last screening at Sundance.
  • THE DARKEST HOUR – Timur Bekmambetov is producing an alien invasion flick for RIGHT AT YOUR DOOR director Chris Gorak to be shot in Russia but released in the US by Summit.
  • ALIEN PREQUEL – Guess how many dimensions the Ridley Scott-directed prequel (which is likely the first part of a new trilogy) is going to be shot in.
  • ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER – Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov will be producing an adaptation of the just-published novel by Seth Grahamme-Smith.

Remakes

  • PET SEMATARY – Matthew Greenberg, the writer behind 1408, has been hired to pen the remake/readaptation of Stephen King’s classic.

Indie, Foreign and Random News

  • THE LAST VOYAGE OF THE DEMETER – Marcus Nispel is off the Dracula-at-sea project, replaced by COUNTERFEITERS director Stefan Ruzowitzky.
  • SOLOMON KANE – Producers of Michael J. Bassett’s solid bit of dark fantasy are hoping to use the PARANORMAL ACTIVITY “Demand it!” ideology.  Not sure it’s going to work, but the movie is worth the 40 seconds it’ll take you to fill it out for your city.
  • THE CHILD’S EYE – The Pang Brothers are doing a fourth entry in their popular EYE series.  Curious considering the first entry was, for a good while, my favorite Asian horror movie.
  • [REC] 2 – Since Sony has shown no plans of releasing it in the States any time soon, your best bet for (legally) seeing [REC] 2 is one of these import DVDs/Blu-rays.
  • THE BLACK WATERS OF ECHO POND – Poster and city list for its theatrical run.

Theatrical Trailers and Clips

  • THE CRAZIES – Second trailer.
  • SOLOMON KANE – A cool clip from the movie, which still lacks distribution in the States but since it is a sold, dark fantasy flick, I’m putting it here out of hope.

Studio News and Attachments

  • MIRRORS 2 – The Nick Stahl starring sequel to Alexandre Aja’s dull remake of a dull movie gets a longer plot description and a full cast.
  • SEASON OF THE WITCH – If you like fire and Nicholas Cage’s forehead, then have I got a poster for you!
  • GHOSTBUSTERS 3 – Sigourney Weaver hints that Bill Murray might be playing a ghost this time around…
  • PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES – Natalie Portman will produce and star in a big screen adaptation of no one’s favorite alternate universe literary classic.
  • VLAD – Summit’s Vlad the Impaler film, written by “SONS OF ANARCHY” and GREEN STREET HOOLIGANS star Charlie Hunnam, will have no hits of vampires in it.
  • HALLOWEEN 3D – The Weinstein Company is scrambling for new ideas to make a movie no one wants into a movie at least one person wants.
  • RESIDENT EVIL: AFTERLIFE – Slides from fall 2010 to the second week of 2011.

Remakes

  • THE WOLFMAN – Emily Blunt says the reason for the shifting WOLFMAN release date has always been driven by special effects deadlines; not because Joe Johnston made a crappy movie.  Speaking of, the flick got an R rating this week.
  • FANTASTIC VOYAGE – The ’60s classic sci-fi flick about shrinking down and going inside the human body joins the growing list of movies James Cameron might tackle next.
  • THE GATE – H.R. Giger will be designing some of the creatures for Alex Winter’s THE GATE 3D.
  • FRIDAY THE 13TH 2 – Unsurprisingly, Platinum Dunes’ proposed sequel to Marcus Nispel’s reboot of F13 has slid from its extremely tentative August 13th, 2010 date to the ambiguous To Be Determined.
  • DON’T LOOK IN THE BASEMENT – Josh Vargas wants to remake S.F. Brownrigg’s film, but with some violent updates.
  • NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET – Samuel Bayer’s remake of NOES is currently undergoing some reshoots, presumably after first test screenings weren’t so hot.

Indie, Foreign, and Random News

  • Zombie STAR WARS – Some guy zombiefied Drew Struzan’s original STAR WARS posters.
  • 2010 Slamdance Lineup – The Sundance offshoot that essentially discovered PARANORMAL ACTIVITY has announced its competition slate for next year.
  • Paramount Goes Low-Budget – The massive studio has set up a fund to produce micro-budget films in at attempt to recapture the profit margins of PARANORMAL ACTIVITY, which they released earlier this year.
  • PARANORMAL ACTIVITY: THE SEARCH FOR KATE – Speaking of, PA now has a follow-up comic series.

Non-theatrical Trailers and Clips

  • [REC] 2 – The first 5 minutes of the film are online, and though they are badass, they’re not nearly as awesome as what happens later on in the movie.
  • HALLOWEEN 2 – The alternate ending.
  • RARE EXPORTS – This is what happens when you dig up Santa Claus.
  • CABIN FEVER 2 – There is no reason you should be looking forward to this movie.
  • 13 HRS. – The producers of DOG SOLDIERS would like to show you their new werewolf movie.

Theatrical Trailers and Clips

  • ANTICHRIST – New trailer, now you can preview tree-of-human-limb sex in HD!
  • SOLOMON KANE – Trailer for the sweet-ass looking upcoming fantasy film.  Weinberg just saw it at TIFF and dug it.
  • PANDORUM – Clip

Studio News and Attachments

  • FRANKENWEENIE – Tim Burton’s feature length adaptation of his re-animated dog short will be his feature film followup to ALICE IN WONDERLAND.
  • TROLLHUNTERS – Guillermo del Toro will be teaming up with Disney for more mature/thrilling animated fare under the banner Double Dare You.  The first of these films will be TROLLHUNTERS, produced by del Toro and based on his own story.
  • MOURNING AFTER – Remember when one of the key players in creating Lionsgate’s genre friendly identity created his own company, A BIGGER BOAT.  Well their next co-production will be about a “woman with a timeless, deadly secret.”  Real daring material there, guys.
  • JEEPERS CREEPERS 3 – Victor Salva still wants to make it, but it seems people are only just now feeling confident enough to consider investing money…so, don’t expect JEEPERS CREEPERS 3: CATHEDRAL any time soon.
  • HALLOWEEN 3D – According to Variety, Dimension has settled on MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3D director Patrick Lussier to direct the Rob Zombie-less sequel to Rob Zombie’s HALLOWEEN franchise.  According to the big horror sites, he’s only ‘in talks’.

Remakes

  • RESIDENT EVIL – According to Bloody-Disgusting, the producers plan on the 5th entry in the RE series to be a reboot back to the premise of the first film.  Because that’s what people want.

Indie, Foreign and Random News

Non-Theatrical Trailers and Clips
