2011 was a really shitty year for horror. There’s no reason to dance around it; it just sucked. Sure, some good movies managed to find release, but not nearly enough. You know it’s been a bad 12 months of genre when it’s a struggle to assemble a Top 10 filled with films that leave any kind of a significant mark– and even then, several are just unreleased films from 2010. But such is the genre these days…

Film4 Frightfest Lineup Looks Bloody Amazing!

I may incite the occasional nugget of envy from readers when I speak frequently of the unchained awesomeness that is Fantastic Fest. While I am quite fortunate to live in Austin, TX and therefore able to attend this orgasmic movie geek gathering, I find myself turning a proverbial shade of green when I read up on international film festivals which I am consistently unable to attend due to the conspiring forces of time and finances. One of the biggest agents of my jealousy is U.K.’s Film 4 Frightfest. Apparently in no hurry to allay my envious rage, Frightfest has announced this year’s lineup.

  • DEAD LOSS – Chris Gorak, who made the admirable RIGHT AT YOUR DOOR (review), is directing DEAD LOSS which is basically “DEADLIEST CATCH” with a horror twist.
  • David Slade is Diplomatic – And also a liar.
  • MANDY LANE – Senator has once again shelved ALL THE BOYS LOVE MANDY LANE (review)from its July 17th release date.  The region free Blu-ray is down to $15.
  • [REC] – A US DVD finally comes out on July 14th.

  • DAYBREAKERS – Lionsgate bumps the vampire flick down the line to the newly claimed horror month of January.  Ethan Hawke, Willem Dafoe and Dr. Allen Grant still have me interested, though.
  • DANTE’S INFERNO – Dan Harris has picked up the screen writing slack on an adaptation of the yet-unpublished game adaption of the titular piece of classic lit.

  • Pascal Laugier – The MARYTRS director talks potential projects on his slate(s), which reach past the HELLRAISER remake and include a CUJO-esque script as well as a LOVECRAFT infused property.
  • CLEAVAGEFIELD – I promise you that, unless I cancel the channel, I will bring you a review of Cinemax’ CLEAVAGEFIELD after it debuts on April 1st.
