People may say that horror movies don’t feel real.
“These are just actors. This is just a movie. It’s not really happening.” Is it?
Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg are teaming up again to bring us the End of the World. Inspired by a short film entitled Jay and Seth vs the Apocalypse, the film also includes James Franco, Danny McBride, Jonah Hill, and Craig Robinson. Also in talks to appear are Jason Segel, David Krumholtz, and Emma Watson.
A stellar cast to be sure, but what’s the catch? They will all be playing themselves. That’s right. We get to see how some of our favorite comedic actors cope with the apocalypse while trapped inside James Franco’s apartment.
Recent horror flicks such as Trick r Treat, Zombieland, Tucker and Dale vs Evil, and The Cabin in the Woods are held so close in our punctured hearts and zombie-devoured minds because they all took a familiar story, and then decided to throw us a curve ball. This time, we’re not seeing Rogen’s and Franco’s characters react to a crisis. We’re seeing them, with all their strengths and all their faults. Will they become the reluctant heroes? Are they doomed to die along with the anonymous millions this armageddon has likely already claimed? How do the real men and women react when there is no script?
One thing is for sure. We’re in for quite a ride, with some bruised actor egos along the way. I think we all remember the cameo in Zombieland? Well, now we have more bodies–er, actors, to slaughter–I mean, work with.
