I am a huge fan of the original (Carpenter’s as well as the black and white, though Carpenter’s is the definitive) and I was half-excited, half fearing the release of this “new” Thing. Rightfully so, it is garbage. The CGI ruins the monster effects completely. These computer geeks could learn a thing or two from Rob Bottin/Stan Winston. Hollywood has lost it’s edge on horror, hence these half-assed regurgitations just to make a buck.

Just pointing out that john carpenter’s “The Thing” was also a remake, not an original. The original was released in the 1950s. Mind you John’s version is the best bar none

I never saw the original, that is now high up on my list. But there are a lot of errors through the movie that don’t make any sense. Not exactly ruining the movie, but sometimes when certain things going on do not make sense, it takes you out of the movie quickly.

I watched this film. Being a massive fan of the Carpenter version I was looking forward to it, but should have known i was only in for dissappointment. It was terrible!!! the CGI was bad and undid all the great special effects work from John Carpenter’s classic. They even stole shots from Carpenter’s version which was confusing seeing as this is a prequel not an homage. Very bad film if you’ve seen the original, mildly fun if you know no better. you must be on the egde of madness if this is the best prequel you have ever seen.

This guy’s a complete idiot! Don’t listen to this review, I thought The Thing remake lived up to the John Carpenter version in every possible way except with better special effects and more gore! This reviewer has the nerve to say this is not an intelligent movie when this review is NOT intelligent! Just the fact that he complains about something so minor as terminology of discussion over a microscopic cell, it seems he’s looking too hard for a reason not to like the movie even though the movie was excellent and probably the best prequel I’ve ever seen! Ignore this review and watch The Thing prequel as it has my vote for best Sci-Fi Horror movie of the year!

I’m going to watch it today for a review. If yours is anything to go by though I’m going to have a field day ripping it to shreds. I’ll admit that I’m one of the horror fans that couldn’t really get into the original. Loved the head with legs though.

Sorry folks, I actually liked the movie. True, not amazing, and not the best ever. But fun and (I think) a must see. Especially if you are a fan of the original.Keep an open mind, sit back, and relax, enjoy you horror. Good or bad. -It’s still fun. :)
