Halloween White Elephant: Report Card

Posted by Brian Salisbury - October 27th 2011 @ 9:23 pm

With just a few days remaining in Horror’s Not Dead’s first ever Halloween White Elephant, I’ve decided to reveal the twist to the game that none of our writers were aware of. I have been keeping a running score going based on a completely arbitrary system that I made up as I went along. It is based on the appropriateness of their selections, how well the person for whom they were selecting them enjoyed the film, and…anything else I want. So let’s take a look at where we are so far…

So far we’ve covered all of the following films:

Carnosaur 3–Damon as assigned by Brian Kelley

Les Diaboliques–Noah as assigned by Brian Salisbury

Terror Tract–Brian Kelley as assigned by Damon

The Serpent and the Rainbow–Jacob as assigned by John Gholson

The Birds–John as assigned by Jacob

Cemetery Man–JC as assigned by Peter

Contamination–Damon as assigned by Brian Kelley

Child’s Play–Brian Salisbury as assigned by Noah

The Stepfather 3–Brian Kelley as assigned by Damon

Galaxy of Terror–John as assigned by Jacob

Shutter–JC as assigned by Peter

The Church–Noah as assigned by Brian Salisbury

La Setta–Damon as assigned by Brian Kelley

Club Dread–Peter as assigned by JC

Black Roses–Brian Salisbury as assigned by Noah

The Janitor–Damon as assigned by Brian Kelley

The Masque of the Red Death–Jacob as assigned by John

Four Flies on Grey Velvet–Noah as assigned by Brian Salisbury

Best Overall Appraisal of Another Writer’s Taste: Peter’s knowledge of JC lead to JC falling love with both his assignments.

Most Embarrassing Oversight Rectified: John Gholson with The Birds

Biggest Selection Fail: Brian Salisbury subjecting Noah to Four Flies on Grey Velvet that turned about to be apparently tortuous.

Most Represented Year: 1988 (Child’s Play, Black Roses, The Serpent and the Rainbow)

Most Surprising Halloween White Elephant Moment Thus Far: Noah and Damon being assigned The Church (aka Demons 3) and La Setta (aka Demons 4) without any collusion from their patrons and then reviewing them on successive days.

So far, based on the responses to the films assigned, and all the other incidentals mentioned above, here’s how things appear to be scored:

Peter Hall–100 points

John Gholson–$100

Jacob Hall–Gold Star

Noah Lee–500 votes

JC De Leon–The Wrench and The Revolver

Brian Kelley–Control of Baltic Avenue

Damon Swindall–High-five

Brian Salisbury–Died of dysentery
