I loved how you say, at the end of your review, that the scariest thing about this movie is being trapped in a non-human body with no way to escape. Its so true! However, I disagree that the mad doctor, Dieter, was amazing or horrific. In fact, he seemed a bit weak when the cops came in his home to check things out. My real issue with the character, though, was that I didn't understand his motivation. We knew nothing about him and had no idea why he wanted a "human centipede" other than that he had a canine version once before that didn't survive. So, in the title it says: "The First Sequence." Could there be more? Perhaps we will learn more about this mad doctor in the next film...

[...] The set-up — a car breaks down in the middle of nowhere, two American girls wander in the rain before finding help at a creepy German’s house — is intentionally hokey, playing on audience expectations. We’ve seen this story before right? Of course, the crazy German guy will try to kill them. Wrong. He wants them very much alive; he just doesn’t want them to stay human. He needs a new pet — a human centipede. “-John Gholson horrorsnotdead [...]
