Observation(s) Concerning the Lack of Black Vampires in DAYBREAKERS.

First let me say that DAYBREAKERS looks great, leagues better than the Spierig brother’s first film, UNDEAD.  In in fact, the portrayal of a vampire-only world looks interesting enough to have inspired several (hypothetical) posts in the days to come.  The first of which, turns out, is this simple one.

Why are there little to no black vampires?  I’ll admit that it didn’t even occur to me after having seen the trailer two or three times.  It took my friend Billy, go to authority for all things not white, to notice the complete lack of brothers in a world of only blood suckers.

The trailer does show one (still human) black guy raging against the oppressors, but the vamps themselves are, save for one lone woman waiting for a train, all Saltines.  What’s the deal with that, Spierig bros?  I’m not going to hypothesize as to why this is the case.  I don’t care if the two Spierigs are using a whites only fascist society as their most horrific idea of a doom-and-gloom future.  And I’m definitely not trying to make any accusations.  My problem is that it, statistically speaking, doesn’t make a lick of sense.

In my scouring of the trailer for shots of black people, I had to pause on what I thought was a black soldier (oddly enough being ripped apart).  After a freeze frame it actually looks like the soldier’s face has been intentionally blurred out.  I’d assume this is done to cover up gore, but I’m left wondering why are the vampiric soldiers eating one of their own, anyway?  Just an observation.

Perhaps this lack of sensitivity in the horror world begins with you Peter. I find it hard to believe that you have yet to mention the passing of one Michael Jackson when the title track of his biggest album was Thriller. A song about going to see a horror movie with your woman. The subsequent video then scared the crap out of all of us as kids. Perhaps in a world of vampires, you would be supreme ruler. You’re welcome Billy.

I couldnt help but read about little to no black vamps in vampire movies. I thought Wesley Snipes made a good vamp in blade but the series sucked so much ass cause they had a rapper named Sticky Fingers play the role of blade. But anyway I am curious to why blacks cant be vampires too. I mean I’m black and I totally love vamps whether they black or white. I guess its all about how a person play the role of being a nocturn creature. Although dude made a good point about DayBreakers, there are no black vamps in that movie but the movie was good as hell though. Someone give me their insight on this. Please
