Trailer Impressions: RE:WII, LEFT 4 DEAD, A VAMPIRE STORY, HOUSE OF THE DEAD, FEAR 2 and More

A couple of horror game trailers and clips have hit the scene in the last week, here are my thoughts:

RESIDENT EVIL - Wii Port

First up we have the new trailer for the (so far) Japan only release of the RESIDENT EVIL remake. It shows a trailer, which shows off nothing that we haven’t seen from the game already. It makes no mention of anything new/exclusive to the Wii. This is especially odd considering the first remake of RESIDENT EVIL was for the Gamecube…which is already backwards compatible with the Wii!

LEFT 4 DEAD

Next we have LEFT 4 DEAD’s opening cinematic. It speaks for itself, you know about my love of destroying the undead with firepower, enough said. (Yes, Peter linked this already, but here it is again)

ALONE IN THE DARK: INFERNO

Now we have another trailer for the ALONE IN THE DARK port for PS3, retitled with a clever “INFERNO” I want to like this game, I really do. The storytelling and DVD chapters of the menu appeal to me. Also, any game that contains the line, “I don’t have your stone and FUCK YOU anyways!” is one that I want to play.

A VAMPIRE STORY

Next in line; A VAMPIRE STORY, the trailer. I have not heard of this game and know nothing of it. It looks to be on the kid-side for sure, but it looks like an old point and click adventure game (SUPER MONEY ISLAND, DAY OF THE TENTACLE) with a toned down NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS design. God help me, I will always be a sucker for those games.  SPACE QUEST took up too big a chunk of my childhood.

HOUSE OF THE DEAD: OVERKILL

Another shooter for the Wii, HOTD:O.  Now I am forced to ask “What the fuck?!” It doesn’t seem like a HOUSE OF THE DEAD game at all. I’m not sure why they are going for the Grindhouse theme and the cartoon-ish looks. If my memory serves, HOUSE OF THE DEAD 2 looked grittier and scarier than this. But hell, it could be fun even if the formula has changed a bit.

F.E.A.R. 2: PROJECT ORIGIN

That bitch Alma is back, and looks to scare the shit out of you all over again. The shocker teaser looks to show pretty much what the last game was. Nothing fresh unfortunately, which is not to say I’m not looking forward to the game.  Just from this, besides better graphics, there is nothing new nor revealing.

F.E.A.R. 2: PROJECT ORIGIN (Comic)

Ok, this is a digital comic and not a game, but hell here it is. I don’t know much about art or graphic novels or any of that. I just know what I like, and this is confusing. I understand the nuances of promoting something, but I really didn’t see the point to this. Just more of Alma being…well, a bitch…in comic form.

Alone in the Dark’s demo seems really fun. I think I’ll at least rent it and see how it is.
