Sci-Fi Fix: Time Traveling N00bs, Plus the Pack Mule of the Robopocalypse

Sci-Fi Fix: Time Traveling N00bs, Plus the Pack Mule of the Robopocalypse

March 20th 2008 @ 4:00 pm

If you are a regular reader of BoingBoing or several other counter-culture blogs, there are strong odds you’ve absorbed these already.  Lessthenone, I bring them to the front of the classroom.

"Wikihistory" is a sharp short story from a fellow named Desmond Warzel.  Written in the style of excerpts from the "International Association of Time Travelers: Members’ Forum", it details the Wiki style re-editing of history between newbie and veteran travelers; the noobs always trying to kill Hitler on their first jump, the vets always having to correct the problem.  It’ll take a handful of minutes to read and is sure to make any time travel fan chuckle (plus Warzel nails forum behavior).

After this break is a video of a DARPA funded Boston Dynamics robotic pack mule dubbed Big Dog.  It is a technical marvel — the crash avoidance system on this mutha is flat-out mind blowing — but of most importance is the indisputable fact that this is the soul-less chariot upon which the Robo Grim Reaper will ride down every last human being foolish enough to use their antiquated bipedal meat sticks to run for their Godless lives.

Listen close.  Remember that sound.  It is the requiem of the future, a symphony waiting to fill the night ears of your grandchildren.  Should they be fortunate enough to survive the first uprising and serve in the Resistance, of course.
