Last Week in Horror: May 18th to the 25th, 2008

Last Week in Horror, not a whole lot worth while happened. Some release dates got firmed up, some remake rights purchased and that’s about it. So instead of an intro-cap, this is all you get.

Oh, and Austin gets my seal of approval as being a great place, ya know, in case the argument was touch and go without me being involved. If we get an apartment within walking distance of an Alamo Drafthouse, well our apartment would no longer be an apartment, it would be the place I shower when not at the Drafthouse.

• THE LOST BOYS 2 is now officially official for July 29th. DVD Shelves, of course. Take that Corey!
• Tony Todd to take the starring reigns in a direct sequel to the original DAWN OF THE DEAD? Produced by long time Romero backer Richard Rubenstein?
• Lionsgate freaks out once again and bumps up MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN to July. Right against HELLBOY II. Smart move. Sike!

Remakes

• The Weinstein Machine gobbles up remake rights to my beloved 13: BELOVED / 13: GAME OF DEATH.
• DreamWorks buys up rights to genre toucher RESURRECTION, which sounds similar to various stories of years gone by; abducted child returns home after 60 years having not aged one day.

Indie, Foreign and Random News

• Stuart Gordon talks about how he’ll rubic’s cube the story for Lovecraft’s THE THING ON THE DOORSTEP.
• Gordon also mentions that NBC let them get away with quite a lot on “FEAR ITSELF”.
• Win Wenders to adapt Japanese novel IN THE MISO SOUP, which actually sounds quite amazing, which is why I’ll dumb it down by calling it COLLATERAL if it was a genre movie.
• GUTTERBALLS, which HND regular Sean called “worse than the worst scifi film ever made”, is picked up for North American distribution by TLA Releasing.
• New Amsterdam Entertainment plans on re-releasing DAWN OF THE DEAD in 3D…?
