Last Week in Horror: July 13th to the 20th

Last Week in Horror we got our first look at the new Jason.  Several new announcements for novel adaptations.  I suppose enough people enjoyed it that Romero is quickly back to work on a sequel to DIARY, I sure wasn’t clammoring for one.  Other than that, not much major news breaks or insights to current productions.  At least none that weren’t already covered on this site earlier in the week.

Horror really does die down during the summer, doesn’t it?

Studio News and Attachments

• DIARY OF THE DEAD 2 is on the fast track, which I suppose quells the rumors that Romero was doing the TIMECRIMES remake.
• John Stockwell to adapt John Connolly’s ghost island novel BAD NAME, but rename it SANCTUARY.
• Buried within a press release, The Weinstein Company half-announces SCREAM 4.
• This should be to no one’s surprise, but Paul W. S. Anderson’s helmed CASTLEVANIA has a shitty script.

Remakes

• If you haven’t heard, THE MONSTER SQUAD is up for a remake at Paramount.
• First shot of the new Jason looks fine, minus a remarkably ‘roided up neck.
• NIGHT OF THE DEMONS gets its principal cast; three women principally known for things other than acting.  I’ll give you a cryptic hint: ( o Y o )

Indie, Foreign and Random News

• Brad Anderson has no less than 4 genre related films lined up on a busy plate.
• Tom Savini is directing VORACIOUS, about an Al Queda sponsored program of enhanced vampire bats and mutated ticks…
• A fan makes an unsolicited bid for directing THE TALISMAN, pours some cash into filming a demo scene from the book.  Quite professional, if still un-wowing.
• Austin’s Fantastic Fest gets its initial line-up announced.
• The same crew behind Jack Ketchum’s THE GIRL NEXT DOOR will adapt the author’s OFFSPRING.
