Last Week in Horror, August 17th to the 24th

Last Week in Horror, TRICK ‘R TREAT got teased around a bit more.  Turns out you can see it in theaters, for free even, but one day only.  After that, enjoy waiting for the unannounced DVD.  Of utmost importance, though: We may finally see MONSTER BLOOD, SAY CHEESE AND DIE, or, dare we hope, IT CAME FROM BENEATH THE SINK on the big screen.

Also, time to play email PR catch up.  There is a complex undertaking underway at Deadbooks.com in the form of film, TV, radio and print mash-ups of the serialized Deadbooks.  Also, Anchor Bay will be putting out an animated film to go hand in hand with the EA survival horror game DEAD SPACE, titled simple DEAD SPACE: DOWNFALL.

I’ll be in Qatar from the 25th until possibly September 15th for work.  Expect little to no posting.

• John Moore wants Mark Wahlberg to headline his soldiers in Afghanistan horror movie called VIRULENTS.  Not to be confused with soldiers in Afghanistan horror movie THE OBJECTIVE.
• Dark Castle green lights ALL CHEERLEADERS DIE as well as an untitled sequel to RETURN ON HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL.
• Be in NYC on October 13th and you can catch a free screening of TRICK ‘R TREAT on the big screen thanks to Fangoria.
• But if you can’t see it there, you’ll have to wait until Warners releases on DVD, which of course is at a date to be determined.
• Remember when After Dark Films teamed up to have fans vote on/create a horror film?  Remember how no big news came of it?  Well now the no big news has it (called PERKINS’ 14) as part of the next Horrorfest pegged for a possibly January stint.
• Break out next year’s calendar.  October 23rd: CABIN IN THE WOODS, written by Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard, directed by Goddard.
• Columbia pictures finally realizes that they can probably make a shitload of money by starting a GOOSEBUMPS film franchise.  Surprise here is Columbia actually hired some capable writers to kick it off.

• Lead roles in Sci-Fi’s CHILDREN OF THE CORN go to David Anders and Kandyse McClure.

• Some British guy to produce a mini-series called DEAD SET in the “BIG BROTHER” house about people who take a last stand against zombies in the titular house of cameras.  Wasn’t this a chapter in WORLD WAR Z?
• If you loved GUTTERBALLS (hint: you did not), you’ll love HANGER.
• HIS NAME WAS JASON, a FRIDAY THE 13TH documentary gears up.
• Dean Cain: Wendigo.  Guess what network is most likely to premiere MANEATER?
