		<description>I think there is a distinction between a lack of and failure to.  [REC] has a lack of because it has no goal to strive towards other than mere survival.  There is no back story to any of its characters.  The only history we're given is limited to a day or so prior and even then it is purely for informational purposes (and sparse, as well).

THE DESCENT, however, tries to have back story.  Neil Marshall tries to have dynamic between his characters, he tries to set each of them up with character specific obstacles.  He tries.</description>
