Horror's Not Dead

Horror's Not Dead

"Can't even shout, Can't even cry, the Gentlemen are coming by. Looking in windows, Knocking on doors, They need to take seven and they might take yours. Can't call to mom, Can't say a word, You're gonna die screaming but you won't be heard."
-- Hush, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer"

Horror’s Not Dead.. in Qatar! Again! So, guest writers needed, please.

In one week I’ll be returning to the part of this blue ball Earth that points perpetually towards a Sun whose brilliance the Western world knows not.  Seriously, I do not know what star shines on the Middle East, but it sure as hell isn’t the one the rest of the world gets.  That or they’ve built a giant invisible magnifying glass over the whole joint.  Either way, I’m going back to Qatar for work next Monday (Oakleys in stow this time) and if I return as scheduled I’ll not be stateside until September 15th.

Now here is the plan: I’m not writing a word of new content for the site starting the 25th, which means it could be contentless for up to 23 days.  I’ll not be working on the site because I plan to spend all my free time in Doha rewriting THE LAN.  I’m not bringing any new books with me or movies to review.  The only thing I’m packing is my screenplay syntax book and my laptop.  What better way to force oneself to write than to travel to a foreign country, during Ramadan no less, with fuck all to do (trust me, Doha is nothing but skyscrapers and dessert, desert too)?  Here I come long sleeves in 105 degree weather!

So if you want to read anything fresh on this site during the dark time to come, its up to people who are not me.  Anyone who wants to write a review or a rant, email me and we can set it up.  RJ Sayer should have at least one review in the works.  If not, I hate him.  I won’t even be doing news posts, so if you’d like to list out the week’s news the honor can be yours to add in snide comments.  You can even write contrary opinions to flicks I’ve reviewed in the past.  As long as you’re a solid writer and stick with horror, sci-fi and possibly fantasy, I’ll post it.

If you’re interested, click the contact tab in the upper right corner.  If you’re not, no big deal.  It’s not like I’m worried about losing readers.  You’re all a loyal bunch, I know that.  I also know the pain of posting blackouts when you’ve got nothing to do but scour the same set of bookmarks over and over and over.  Or maybe I just spend too much time in front of a computer.

Speaking of guest writers.. Some time in the near future, my friend Randy is going to come down from his hillbilly mountain long enough to write some guest reviews.  Reviews of metal albums, I should add.  I know, I know, this isn’t metalsnotdead.com.  Randy is just looking for an outlet once or twice a month to talk about music.  If I recall correctly, he majored in journalism.  Though I think he went to West Virginia University, which means he likely majored in how to write newspaper stories that exclude the real blood ties in wedding announcements.   But still, as much as I love myself, I also like reading stuff on here that didn’t come from my stunning intellect.

Seacrest out.

“Doha is nothing but skyscrapers and dessert”

That sounds equally daunting and delicious.

Shit, Brian, I didn’t know you were also Sherlock Holmes and would check a time stamp, thus exposing my old man sleeping habits. Jerk.

My bed time is actually normally 10ish, as I wake up at 5am every weekday.

I’m pretty sure you can edit the time stamp. Maybe you should change it to say 2:30 AM or something.

I hope Andrew Kevin Walker gets a shot as a guest writer. He would be awesome.

About 15 minutes before this post went live. We were joking about it at work, so I figured why not. Did have a plan for several Xnotdead.com(s) for a while…

I also own horrorisnotdead.com, horrorsnotdead.net and wikihorror.com (though that is a project for next year when I have a lot more free time).
