There has been a sealed copy of the Masters of Horror: Season One Box Set sitting with the neglected innocence of a pet rock on a chair next to my desk for over two months. And now that the new site is up, I’m going to finally package the slightly pricey mofo and ship it out to a worthy home. And I get to do so while knocking out another procrastination; HND’s Top 20 Genre Films of 2007!
To win is simple; click on that contact tab a few hundred pixels North East of these words and email me (Subject "MOH Giveaway") what you believe to be my top 20 picks for ‘07. One point will be awarded for each correct title and an additional 2 points will be awarded if you land a title in the same slot as I. Whoever scores the most points gets the $80 MSRP set.
Deadline will be two weeks from today, March 11th, 2008. I’ll not limit who or how many times a person can submit a list, but I will use whichever list is submitted closest to the deadline. Note that not every film will necessarily have been reviewed on the site — and even if it was, don’t rule out ones with lower ratings; I can have crazy tastes when it comes to list making.
For clarification, I consider a genre film to be anything in arms length of horror, fantasy or science fiction. For the purposes of dating a film, I go by when it received its largest, paying audience release (anywhere in the world) that spanned more than one city. If the film was completed in 2005, but did not receive its widest release until 2007, I consider it a 2007 film.
Any questions? If not, good luck with the guesses. If you need a reminder of what was out last year, behold Wikipedia (though I offer no vouch regarding the accuracy of that compilation).
Nifty idea for a contest, Peter. Make ‘em work for it!
I must confess, the idea for the contest was Christine’s. She also had an alternate suggestion for the forthcoming DVD box that was significantly more inspired (and functional) than what was in store.
She > me.
Top 20 *horror* movies? or top 20 movies period? foreign films included?
Top 20 Horror and Sci-Fi, which includes Foreign Films (if they came out in their respective countries last year). The nice part is, you can just throw a dart at a board and get quite a few of them.
I’m pretty sure I’m going to win again.
Brian, you know we’re all pulling for you.
Peter, thank goodness I didn’t go with my first response and complain how much this contest sounded like homework. ;)
Thanks for the response. Guess that means I gotta cross off Atonement as #1.
I gave it a go. Brian will probably win.
Nah, I’d place my bet on you, Barry. Especially considering your list was not just close, but the only entry so far. :-\
I’d enter but Croc would be every name on the list, just saying, accents are wild cause they don’t cause no child…..
