HND Calendar is Live!

HND Calendar is Live!

To make up for the absence of a DVD Guide for March is the rebirth of said guide in the form of the Horror’s Not Dead Month by Month, which is now operational at the bottom of the home page.

The Calendar, an oily bit of programming on the part of Chris (once again), is quite a departure from the old way of breaking down a month’s worth of DVDs.  It may convey less information all at once, but the prettiness and natural flow of its sensual menus on the dance floor more than compensate.  And now, not only can I list DVDs, but I can drop anything else I want too, so expect theatrical and television events as well.

The DVDs for this month are complete, though the Theatrical listings are sparse on personal commentary at present.  I do plan on going through and forecasting theater dates well into the future, though the DVDs will likely only be updated a week or so before each new month.  And, to avoid someone having to check every date of the Calendar for updates, I will itemize additions and changes and put them in a post just like this from time to time.

Input needed after the break:

I currently cover all DVDs, which will continue regardless, but should we segregate the daily view page by genre, ordering non-horror to he back of the bus?

MIA from the old Guides are my categorical breakdowns along the lines of "Must Buy" or "Rentals".  Is this a problem?  Should I generate a post bi-monthly with said breakdown?  I think I might.  If so, I will keep that genre inclusive.  Or should I tag each DVD/Movie with an approval rating?

What else is missing from this site?  Should I do more list making?  Top 10s are all the rage these days…  More rambling editorials?  I, personally, feel like I should do that more often, but what I feel like doing and end up doing are always asynchronous.  Should I have ads?  Would ads bother people?  I need to have a more comprehensive linking section?  Weekly Polls?  More random quotes?  Less?  Should I change the banner image?  Make it random as well?

My Gods, the possibilities!

You should definitely do some reviews of the horror movies we suggested to cure your rut.

I like rambling. Also, randomness. Although you need a logo. Something to identify you with that you could sell on t-shirts. Makey dat green.

Don’t mind ads. Use your Amazon search all the time.

Eh, this might not be a good time to reply. I just looked at the source and realized that this site is all tables. Kinda depressed now.

Brian; That I definitely will do, though not until next week. Been rewatching Season 2 and 3 of Battlestar Galactica in anticipation of Season 4 this Friday.

John: Good depressed or bad depressed? Either way, blame Chris if the backend was built on wackytobaccy. And I do appreciate the Amazon usage.

I probably won’t be adding ads any time soon, but I haven’t ruled it out. I probably should try and find some way to make money off this site, though.

The main content blocks and the header are in tables. But the entries, comments, the sidebar, and the calendar, for example, are tableless. Not sure how this constitutes “all tables,” but I find the whole tableless thing hopelessly utopian 9 times out of 10. It’s nice when you can do it, but the benefits tend to be disproportionate to the additional headaches and cross-browser inconsistencies involved.

I think my brain just got served.

Yipe! Didn’t mean to cause a ruckus. There’s no blame to be had and no offense intended, honestly. It was just an observation. Don’t hit me.

Meanwhile, I would totally wear a HND t-shirt to all of the many… populated places… that I go to regularly. (Erm, I stay home a lot.)

Wait a minute, BSG S4 starts this Friday? I don’t even think I’ve seen S3 yet.

    Aww crap. NOW I’m depressed.

Nah, don’t get me wrong; I’m not offended and I love the idea of tableless design. I just find myself constantly having to compromise on how I want things to look when using it to achieve consistency. Anyhoo…I’d probably buy an HND shirt, though I too can’t promise it’d be seen by too many people other than 1) my girlfriend and 2) my roommate.

I can meet you halfway and wear it with my webcam on or something, though. Cool?

I’m starting to think I’m the only one here who goes outside.

John, if you haven’t seen Season 3 of BSG, you have absolutely got to. Avoid all spoilers and see it as soon as possible. The first five episodes of S3 are the best science-fiction television ever produced. So sharp, so topical, so utterly badass.

    T-shirts, eh…Maybe I will come up with a logo…

    Brian, Outside is overrated;

That aside, how does Outside actually rate? The physics system is note-perfect (often at the expense of playability), the graphics are beyond comparison, the rendering of objects is absolutely beautiful at any distance, and the player’s ability to interact with objects is really limited only by other players’ tolerance. The real fundamental problem with the game is that there is nothing to do.

John, go to the nearest video store. Rent every disc of BSG season 3 available. in fact, if you have to go to a different store to get the entire season, do it. track them ALL down.

then go home. and watch it. it’s the best season yet.

But Brian said I should go outside!

Apparently, they’ve been showing the older episodes on SciFi. Wish I knew that a bit sooner, but I’m gonna record the last half of S3 tomorrow morning. At the very least, that’s three less disks I’ll have to wait for from Netflix. The DVR will keep those and S4 until I can get around to them.

No John, I DON’T want you to go outside. Everyone at horrorsnotdead.com started going outside what would I have to make me stand out?
