Well thanks for the site love, fellas. Its currently getting a rehaul which I think everyone will dig. At least it’ll motivate me to update more often.

I love his reading of 1408. Audio books are the best when you’re stuck in a 2 hour commute round trip every day.

oh hey, that reminds me.

If you get a chance, listen to 1408 when Stephen King reads it, I think it’s on Blood and Water.

it freaked me out.

I liked The Shining, for both parts, because one was how I read the book, and the other was a genuinely scary movie that happened to share resemblances.

And, I don’t remember what The Mist is >_>

Peter - oh yeah that “3-D” audio version of The Mist is one of my favorite things to listen to… ever. perfect for road trips. even better for work.

I still need to get around to reading The Shining, but not until after The Stand. Has anyone heard the Audio Book/Radio-ish play of The Mist? Great stuff to listen to on a road trip…

Absolutely. I agree that we both see different things which is great. I see your point. Great debate. I love that this doesn’t become a flame war but just a discussion of differences of opinion. I love this blog AND the people that visit it. I completely agree that the mist will rock.

guess so.

because i think the Kubrick version finds the core of what the story is really about without all the shennanigans and the miniseries is just superficial ornamentation.

but i bet we can both agree that THE MIST is going to be incredible.

see I totally disagree with you. I read the book and then saw the mini series version which I love to this day. I don’t understand how anyone can hate it as it has so much more too it than Kubrick’s version had. Which brings me to my second point which is that Kubrick had a movie call the shining that bore no resemblance to the book at all. It had nothing but the place and names out of the book and then changed everything else about it. I sat through the entire movie once and cannot again to save my life. Shelly Duvall drove me nuts as Wendy Torrence to the point I wanted Jack Torrence to kill her. I guess though it is just a difference of opinion.

i don’t like to be a naysayer here (as i am also excited about 1408), but King’s approval doesn’t always mean the film is good. in fact, i would call it something more akin to the kiss of death.

remember… he HATED Kubrick’s take on THE SHINING, and approved of the god-awful miniseries version.

plus, King knows nothing about film. in his Entertainment Weekly column he praised MYSTIC RIVER (vomit) while trashing KILL BILL VOLUME 1.

THE MIST, however, is going to be awesome. that is not a guess. that is not a hope. it’s not even a clairvoyant prediction. it’s simply an immutable fact.

i repeat:

FACT: THE MIST IS GOING TO BE AWESOME.
