I try to keep this blog genre related only, but every now and then I’m compelled to break that rule.  Both the teaser and poster for Koldo Serra’s Spanish lensed The Backwoods are too good not to share.

That poster alone is awesome in its ’70s throwback style - especially the tag line.  And, let us be serious here, is there anything cooler than Gary Oldman holding a shotgun and bathed in red?  The trailer maintains that brooding ’70s presence and promises what looks like a slow boil of small town anger.  Plus, the site’s synopsis refers to the conflict between the locals and the city folk as, "a strong whirpool of violence."  Count me in.*

*Though, it’s worth pointing out, that just from viewings at Cannes, it’s already getting heat on the IMDB, so maybe it doesn’t live up to its word.  But, people walked out of the Ordeal during its festival run and it got pretty much universally shat on by critics, yet I dug the hell out of it.  To each his own.  Or, more accurately, I’m right and everyone else is wrong.
