i know what you mean. i stood at the store, staring at the discs for like half an hour, debating. ultimately i decided i just couldn't do it. i swore lucas wouldn't get any more of my money until we, as fans, get some respect. i mean come on... it's 2006 and anamorphic widescreen is industry STANDARD for crying out loud. i mean, i can get past the fact that the transfer wasn't cleaned up. i can accept the mono surround/2-channel sound. i can even (though it pains me greatly to admit) get over the fact that it was a second disc "special feature" (supposedly to avoid having to pay his wife any royalties or whatever) instead of the "feature presentation." but non-anamorphic (meaning i can't watch it on my parents' widescreen tv when i go over there) is just a total slap in the face.

plus, i have more important things to spend my money on.

like the twilight zone complete series box set coming out next week.
...

Man... a cronenberg fest would be amazing.

There are plenty of great theaters around here, so hopefully they'll abandond that crappy location for Halloween (or at least expand to a few more Regals).

I just wish the AFI Silver would do some horror shows. I died a little inside when they did their David Cronenberg retrospective in the early spring and I missed it because I was still in Florida.

Oh, and sadly, I did buy those discs, even though I know that in two years time the real good stuff will come out. Just couldn't resist the call of Han shooting first.

i understand your predicament. we fans have to put up with a lot of poor treatment these days and we should communicate SOME kind of standards. hence why i haven't bought those non-anamorphic dvd dumps of the original original trilogy (you know the one i mean).

i'll probably be at Halloween just the same. i hope, for your sake, they choose a different venue in your town. unfortunately, though, regal pretty much has a set list of the theatres where they run their digital shows, and, barring any unforeseen issues (digital projector breakdowns, loss of central server connection, theatre burning to the ground, etc.), i doubt they'll change it.

either way, good luck and i'm sorry you didn't have fun at ANOES. i did. but i went with a group of friends to a crowded theatre after a couple beers.

maybe you should bring up the projection issue with the theatre management. they might be able to get a look at it or call in their cinemedia rep or booth tech or somebody to see if they can get it fixed.

Thanks for clearing some of it up. I'll take what I can get as well, but man, if Halloween is only playing in the same local screen that Nightmare was, I sadly probably won't bother. It was my first time going there...great lobby, shitty theater.

also, didn't mean to potentially mislead.

i'm assuming THE SOURCE for the image was the dvd. regal just beams/downloads stuff in from their central cinemedia server for their digital shows.

a 35mm print of HALLOWEEN would be nice, but considering that, as of yet, one doesn't actually exist (fingers crossed for the synapse project involving the recently discovered camera negatives), and striking a print is expensive as hell (especially when holding only TWO shows at somewhere around 100 screens ACROSS THE COUNTRY, SIMULTANEOUSLY) ... i'm guessing they'll just be going ditital for that, too.

i'm with you. physical 35mm is far superior to downloaded digital.

but it's HALLOWEEN, man.

on the BIG SCREEN.

i'll take what i can get.

uhm... dude.

they weren't using a 35mm print. it was digital projection. most likely from the dvd that's being released.

and personally - considering how crappy digital projection usually looks on screens meant for 35 - i thought it looked decent.

and as for attendance... yeah, it was the theatre you went to. the auditorium was packed where i saw it.
