by the way, about Cabin Fever... i can totally appreciate why some people like it. it does have a lot of elements going for it... but in the long run, the drawbacks and faults just tip the scale for me.

who knows, though, maybe if Roth did an episode of MoH he'd be forced to cut out his homophobic/misogynist/privileged stoner moron banter crap and actually concentrate on the horror elements to accomodate the time limitations.

Hey. I happen to really like the Willard remake. I know, I know, my enjoyment of it owes more to Crispin and R. Lee for sure... but it was competent. I also really enjoy the first two Final Destination films and the guy worked on The X-Files... anthology horror sci/fi is right up his alley.

I hated Cabin Fever when I saw it, and will continue to hate it until the day I die. i love the "pancakes" kid with all my heart. but everything else about that "film" makes me want to knee-drop everyone involved with the production. Roth is nothing more than a gorehound frat-boy. right up there with Troy Duffy. and please don't misunderstand, i'm a gorehound myself. it's the frat-boy part that bothers me.

Shane Carruth needs to do something else and quick. the guy is quite possibly the only new filmmaker who deserves the attention that a-holes like Roth are getting. it'd be a shame to see him go to something like MoH without doing another feature... but I just want to see ANYTHING from him now. PRIMER was A-MAZ-ING and he needs to get to more work.

As for The Descent, I wanted to love it, I WOULD HAVE loved it if only he didn't feel the need to throw in that asinine, arbitrary and - might i add - TOTALLY EFFING LAME subplot about the infidelity. that was just obnoxious to the point of being unforgivable. and what's the deal with these milquetoast chicks suddenly finding their inner badass in movies like this? Juno was the badass... not the whiney housewife with the dead kid. Seriously. UGH. Dog Soldiers kicks the hell out of that movie any day.

oh. and uhm... spoiler. sort of.

I'm not going to defend Roth, because I hate the guy more and more every time he opens his mouth this days and completely understand the growing disdain for the man. But I get such a kick out of Cabin Fever that I'm not going to pretend otherwise.

Shane Carruth is a choice of pure inspiration and something I'd never thought of, but the instant I read it the possibilities were overwhelming. God damn, would I love to see that.

Come on, though...Glen Morgan?

Always glad to see more acid against The Descent.

Roth?

Sorry man, you had me up until that one.

Eli needs to go away and never come back. Although, there's a chance that given an one hour time limit he could come up with something pretty awesome.

However, a James Gunn episode would be AWESOME.

Oh, and totally agree on the Walter Hill.

A few more:

Pang Brothers
Greg McLean
Neil Marshall (an apology for The Descent may be in order, however)
Andrew Fleming
John Harrison
Dwight H. Little
Glen Morgan
James Wong
Takashi Shimizu (he needs to move away from The Grudge. quickly)
Shane Carruth

While some of these names may not be considered "Masters" of Horror.... I'm sure that once the big names run out of interest, steam or both, these guys could deliver some pretty great things to an hour-long anthology series.

Not a bad fantasy lineup at all, and including some of my own:

Cronenberg
Carpenter
Coscarelli
Romero
Paxton
Dante
Aja
Zemeckis
Hill
Miike
Dekker
Whedon
Roth

A bit on the mainstream side, but I think they'd all make fascinating hour longs (some have proven they already can).

might i add how absolutely ecstatic i am that william malone will not be directing an episode this season.

directors i'd like to see them get:

Fred Dekker
Steve Miner (i'll forgive him for that Day of the Dead remake... maybe)
Chuck Russell
Anthony Waller (AWIP might've sucked but Mute Witness was awesome)
Romero, already!? Seriously!
Cronenberg, Cronenberg, Cronenberg. (too bad he's busy doing actual films)
Joe Zito
Bill Lustig
Tom McLaughlin
Richard Franklin
Sandor Stern
Kathryn Bigelow
Mary Lambert
James Whale brought back from the dead by way of a Vodoun ritual.
